The Googs must be crazy

Only because Simon had to send back another article in response to this Harpers Annotation (blueprints for Googles new data-farm next to the Dalles Dam on the Colombia River) I sent him:

Keyword: evil

The blueprints depicting Google’s data center at The Dalles,Oregon, are proof that the Web is no ethereal store of ideas, shimmering over our heads like the aurora borealis. It is a new heavy industry, an energy glutton that is only growing hungrier.

Sounds pretty scary, eh? Simon responded with this gem: The Search Party: Google squares off with its Capitol Hill critics.

This year, Google’s ad revenues are expected to reach sixteen billion dollars, approaching the combined national advertising revenues of the four major broadcast networks. The purchase of DoubleClick, for a proposed $3.1 billion, has only heightened anxiety about Google.

What's up next kids?? I welcome all contributions to the public drubbing of the worlds most successful search engine, not least because I hate the term cloud-computing. Clouds are pretty and gentle and/or awesome and sublime. Let's not sully them with our nasty data.
