Told you so

Sounds like Heather Mallick was on of the kids who teased me about my footwear.

What gives people? Since when is it okay *under any circumstances* to suggest that a woman you disagree with has a “toned-down version of the porn actress look.� Imagine it wasn't a woman you felt naturally superior to Ms. Mallick, say it was someone from your own 'set' would you say that?? I bet not.

Speaking of politics.. Yesterday I ran into Paul, an artist who lives in a loft at the bottom of my street and teaches yoga occasionally at Ambaa Yoga near my house. I asked him who he was going to vote for and the normally mild-mannered fellow laughed in my face. He then replied:

"Who am I going to vote for?? Are you kidding?? I don't vote. I mean what's the point, it's like a choice between two evils, and that doesn't interest me. Our political system is a dysfunctional family, and sorry when I see a dysfunctional father figure treat his family like shit I leave, that's what I did in my family of origin and that's what I do in politics. If there was a leader who really embodied love, respect, creativity, even just an end to capitalism, then I'd be out there voting for sure. But seriously, it's the same shit from different mouths, it's a fucking Karaoke. We elect a CEO not a leader. Fucking people sitting there choosing between two people who have treated them like shit - well this guy shat me less, I guess I'll pick him - no thanks."

I was laughing, but it's true, especially the part where Paul described the characteristics of a good leader. I am paraphrasing here, his choice of words was much more succinct, and it made me sad to realize that I agreed with him, but had basically given up hope that a leader culd be virtuous/inspire any kind of affection. It's more like at this point I just wish our political leadership had integrity. Just integrity, I don't even have to agree with them. To imagine a leader who not only had integrity but also shared my values, so instead of voting strategicially to stave off the worst I could say - well I really like that canidiate - I don't even know what that person would look like, or say. I think that's what Obama has that no-one else does. Of all the candidates for any election running around this continent Obama is the only one who looks like a good father figure.
