Creative Country under seige by Capitalist Crooks

To be creative is, in fact, Canadian: Mr. Harper is wrong: There's more to the arts than a bunch of rich people at galas whining about their grants - By Margeret Atwood. Who btw, was my Mom's babysitter for a short time.

I have to say the part where she starts comparing Old White eyes to a dictator makes me a wee bit uncomfortable. It's good rhetoric, but I say, wait until the first journalist gets thrown in the slammer before you launch that kind of hyperbole.

In the comments there are *still* a bunch of idjuts saying : Canada should not support "entertainment" and "let's fund arts at the provincial level". If the country decides to fund art at the provincial level I think PEI should bump up it's support by 600% and change it's name to Valhalla by the Sea, then all us 'entertaining' bohemians can move there, smoke opium, write operettas, and wear antique lace. The rest of the country will be for oil-obsessed factotums who don't 'get' why fiction is important and think abstract art is 'baloney'. After about 10 years they'll be so bored and uninspired by the pettiness of their lives, that they'll begging for catharsis. Asking us to give up our split level straw-bale mansions and come home to our cruddy apartments and a pile of overdue grant reports.

Of course by that time, we will have learned to say *hells no* to "ordinary people" and what they need, and will just hang up the phone, and go outside to check the bees.
