So as you all know, I was stuck at YUL for about 6 hrs yesterday. Which is the best. Highlights of my airport stay included watching the automated window shades rolling up and down every 15 minutes and wondering why there was so much indecision about whether or not the atrium for the US -bound flights should be sun-filled or shady.
As well, I purchased some useless electronics, and considered a "top ten stupid things I have done in airports while waiting for my flight which ended up not happening anyways" list.
Unfortunately I am not terrifically stupid so I guess my big splurge was buying a marked down fiction book and a tall peppermint tea. Woah Nelly!
I think my first warning should have been that all the staff for united look like teen stars. One girl had two tone white and black curls erupting from a high ponytail. She was wearing a seriously fitted uniform and a shiny scarf around her neck. Lots of eye make-up. The guy I was dealing with had a mohawk, A FUCKING MOHAWK, now I realize I should not make snap judgements based on people's appearances, but when someone who looks like zippo is responsible for getting you halfway around the world I think there is good cause for worry.
Following my last painful interaction with the only regular looking person at the desk who's defense of the miserable service was "departure times are just an estimate, so it's not possible for me to tell you when your flight to Sydney is going to leave exactly". Ah right, so when I book a ticket to get to a certain place by a certain day, it's really just a shot in the dark. Got it, my mistake.
Anyways, I finally wound up back at Alison's, where I had been the night before to have a compensatory movie watching dinner eating experience. Which was fabulous. We rented "Flight of the Conchords, which apparently everyone but me has seen, and went to a Vietnamese place near Alison's place where i ate these crazy appetizers made of shrimp and sweet potato, like little fried log-shrimp-cabins, and then a plate of Vietnamese Spicy Beef crepes. The meal was so tasty it basically erased any bad feelings about airlines I had in a haze of fresh mint, peanuty beef satay, sweet potatos and bean sprouts.

The food.
The Conchords.
So that's the update, I leave again in half an hour and like acid reflux, I will be taking United and flying through a hurricane ( I mean, Chicago) so who know's maybe tonight I'll be eating dinner at Jane's :)
