So done

The OLPC paper #1 is in the bag. I just printed it without double-siding and I feel like a bit of a mean anti-environmental jerk, but I often wonder if professors prefer it one-sided and right now i am into anything I can do to keep my average above the "goodbye grade point average" mark.

Stats:

45 footnotes in total (there are plenny ibids though).

The Googs must be crazy

Only because Simon had to send back another article in response to this Harpers Annotation (blueprints for Googles new data-farm next to the Dalles Dam on the Colombia River) I sent him:

Keyword: evil

The blueprints depicting Google’s data center at The Dalles,Oregon, are proof that the Web is no ethereal store of ideas, shimmering over our heads like the aurora borealis. It is a new heavy industry, an energy glutton that is only growing hungrier.

Monkeys, Media, Pornography

Two quotes from articles read while traveling to Toronto, one from the New Yorker, and one from Readers Digest.

From "Cult of Celebrity" Readers Digest, February 2008:

"A 2005 study ... found that monkeys would give up food to stare at photos of dominant monkeys in their group. The theory is that, for survival and procreation, less powerful monkeys need to be tuned into all the social information about those at the centre of attention."
